le petit jardin tea towel

£19.00

Manufactured for us by a long-established weaver in northern France, the “le petit jardin” tea towel uses their experience gained from over a century’s experience.

Armentières in France was once known as the “city of canvas” for its sheets, work-clothes, and outdoor fabrics. The manufacturer introduced linen, a favourite raw material in near-by Flanders, in the early 20th Century.

Made from 100% linen, this tea-towel has our shop name woven in red stitching through natural coloured linen. It measures 45 cm by 75 cm. It’s a heavy weave: 380 gm per square metre.

Suitable for machine washing at up to 95° C.

Why linen is the best material for a tea towel

Linen is a natural fiber that has been used for centuries to make clothing, linens, and other household items. It is known for its strength, durability, and absorbency. These qualities make linen the ideal material for a tea towel.

Here are some of the reasons why linen is the best material for a tea towel:

  • Absorbency: Linen is incredibly absorbent. It can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture, which makes it perfect for drying dishes, hands, and other surfaces.
  • Strength: Linen is a strong fabric. It is 30% stronger than cotton, which means that it will last longer and be less likely to tear or fray.
  • Durability: Linen is also exceptionally durable. It can withstand repeated washings without losing its shape or color.
  • Lint-free: Linen does not leave lint behind, which makes it ideal for drying delicate dishes and silverware.
  • Breathable: Linen is a breathable fabric, which means that it will help to wick away moisture and prevent the growth of bacteria.
  • Eco-friendly: Linen is a sustainable fabric. It is grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides, and it can be recycled or composted at the end of its life.

If you are looking for a durable, absorbent, and eco-friendly tea towel, then linen is the best choice for you. Linen tea towels will last for years, and they will only get softer and more absorbent with each wash.
