Herbaceous sickle

£20.00

This herbaceous sickle was originally designed for hand-harvesting rice in Japan. However, it is not limited to just rice harvesting; any long grasses or similar garden material can be readily cut back with this tool. Grab a handful of grasses with one hand and then use the serrated blade to cut away with a quick, sawing action.

The sickle was an early precursor to the scythe, something we only just learned when writing up this product – see here for more information. They’ve been used for around 10,000 years – these are new ones though!

About the herbaceous sickle:

  • Blade length: 18 cm
  • Overall length: 34 cm
  • Handle material: Poplar wood
